Problemas con imágenes al compartir en Google+ – Dominios – Accident

La sorpresa técnica de ayer fue al ir a compartir un post en Google+.

Resulta que uno pone como siempre el enlace en el casillero de "Comparte tus novedades" esperando que se cargue la primera imagen del enlace de destino u otra representativa de su contenido y en lugar de eso sale un monumental avatar de alguien que comentó en esa entrada.... y venga darle a las flechitas para especificar otra imagen distinta y venga avatares, uno tras otro, pero ni rastro de la imagen principal.

Pensé que me habría cargado algunameta importante, pero me mosqueó ver que con diversos sitios ocurría lo mismo y que además, dentro de una misma web con unos posts todo iba perfecto y con otros de pena.

Como primera solución de emergencia hice lo fácil, compartir fotografía en lugar de enlace subiendo la que quería que saliera, añadiendo el resumen y el enlace a mano. Pero no está tan barato el tiempo como para perderlo de esta manera así que me puse a investigar, a probar cosas y aunque hay un pequeño fleco que se me escapa, la causa esta localizada y por tanto podemos aplicar una solución.

La causa

La razón de esta anomalía es tan simple como incómoda y poco gestionable por nosotros. Desde hace unos días el algoritmo con el que G+ elige las imágenes que podrían ilustrar el enlace ha cambiado yactualmente sólo toma las que tienen un ancho superior a 506px.

Lo que ahora hace Google Plus es buscar todas las imágenes que existen en la dirección de destino y luego mostrar como opciones las que superan esa medida. Sólo esas y las más pequeñas las descarta. Una ventajilla es que dentro de esas opciones accesibles desde la flechitas de avanzar/retroceder están todas las imágenes de la página y no sólo una terna como hasta ahora.

Con esto la cosa de que se vean avatares y no otros gráficos ya tiene más lógica. Al menos en Blogger, los avatares de perfiles suelen tener una medida de 512x512px y cuando las imágenes propias de las entradas son todas descartadas por G+ por tamaño, entonces sólo nos da como elegibles estas de los perfiles que casi siempre superan el corte.

La solución

Pues difícil con lo pasado, pero fácilmente evitable para el futuro.

El problema no está en nuestros sitios web sino en la nueva manera de tratar las imágenes por parte de G+, por lo que no hay -casi- nada que podamos hacer salvo procurar incluir siempre en nuestras entradas, al menos una imagen de ancho superior a la medida indicada (506px).

Por eso decía que hacia atrás sigue existiendo un problema, porque si bien en el futuro ya lo tendremos en cuenta, trabajoso será editar todo los posts con imágenes pequeñas para cambiarlas.

Y ojo queel tamaño indicado es para el tamaño natural, es decir, el que se muestra en web antes de redimensionar con CSS.

Es decir, si subimos una imagen de por ejemplo 1000px pero luego con el editor de entradas indicamos tamañoGrande, ya sabéis que esa imagen será en la entrada de 400px por la utilidad de Blogger que nos generaimágenes clónicas de todas las medidas inferiores a la de la imagen original.

Por tanto, lo recomendado sería subir siempre al menos una imagen de más de 506px y marcarTamaño original oExtra Grande, no otro, dependiendo de lo que nos convenga.

Ajustes

Por el diseño de una entrada en particular quizás no queramos que salga la imagen tan grande como se nos exige y en ese caso no tendremos más remedio que editar el HTML de la imagen y añadir (o sustituir) manualmente el ancho de la misma mediantewidth. Si tenemos unheight lo más rápido es quitarlo y automáticamente se calcurá proporcionalmente al tamaño original.

De esta manera la imagen tendrá en web el tamaño necesario para G+ pero se mostrará reducida a la medida exacta que queramos.


Adicionalmente y para cubrir automáticamente el caso de las imágenes centradas que incluso con el tamañoExtra Grande (640px) pudieran desbordar la columna principal de algunas plantillas más estrechas, podéis añadir a vuestro CSS esto:

max-width:94%;
height: auto;
}

Ambas cosas harán que la imagen se vea de un tamaño más pequeño pero realmente permanecerá con las dimensiones con las que se subió y por tanto será elegible por G+.

Otras ideas

** Una alternativa para según que sitios, sería simplemente incorporar al diseño un logo o imagen fija que superara esos 506px. De esta manera siempre habría disponible al menos un dibujito elegible que estaría de acorde con el contenido del sitio.

** Esto no es seguro que funcione en todos los casos pero en teoría, si incluimos una meta como esta antes del/head, forzaríamos que Google Plus se olvidara de la limitación de tamaño para que incluyera la primera imagen de cada post. Así sería su redacción en Blogger:

meta expr:content='data:blog.postImageUrl' property='og:image'/

Esameta no estorba e incluso es útil para compartir en Facebook, así que os viene bien ponerla en vuestra plantilla en cualquier caso.

Flecos

El principal es que la regla del ancho no es del todo fija, pero pienso que es porque además del ancho mínimo, también hay una proporción mínima. Esto ya lo sé menos seguro pero creo que anda por 6:4. Al menos a mí con esa me han funcionado las pruebas y con menos no.

Otro problema es que en las entradas sin imágenes, Google+ siempre buscará las grandes que encuentre, colocándote banners, iconos u otras tonterías, pero en ese caso sólo hay que pinchar en la X paraEliminar imagen y listo. Si el post original no tiene imagen, pues el enlace compartido tampoco.

Este es un cacharrito muy cortito de código (si le quitáis los comentarios mucho más), que permite mostrar en un gadget una serie de resultados de búsqueda sobre YouTube, en función de ciertas palabras programadas de antemano.

Como cosas extra, el usuario podrá introducir sus propias palabras para obtener otros resultados e incluye diversas opciones de configuración para este.

Puede servir para poner vídeos relacionados con la temática de vuestro blog o incluso afinando bien con las palabras clave, para que salgan algunos en concreto que queráis mostrar expresamente.

El código está casi tal cual lo encontré en unademo para la API de YouTube, así que no preguntéis mucho sobre posibles variaciones que va a ser que no sabré. Lo que pillé ya lo he comentando en el propio código. Sería este:

Almacenamiento de imágenes en Google: Límites franqueables – Habitaciones

Sobre todo entre blogueros, hay mucho miedo con eso de llegar a cubrir el almacén gratuito que Google nos brinda para algunos de sus servicios, pero creo que incluso intentándolo hacer adrede costaría algo de trabajo llegar a ese extremo.

Actualmente la capacidad conjunta sin coste de los servicios Google Drive, GMail y Fotos Google+ para usuarios registrados, es inicialmente de 15GB, pero a eso hay que añadir algunos bonus que pueden hacer que el almacenamiento para imágenes, lo que más veo que preocupa, sea ilimitado.

Las distintas páginas de soporte de Google entremezclan un poco los datos y creo que en eso radica parte de la confusión que existe sobre las cifras, pero voy a intentar aclararlo.

Picasa

LosÁlbumes de Picasa te permiten ocupar en un principiohasta 1GB de almacenamiento gratuito para imágenes y vídeo, pero el punto interesante de laletra pequeña es que los ficheros que tienen menos de un tamaño determinado no cuentan para ese límite:

• Usuarios NO registrados en Google+: las fotografías de tamaño inferior a 800px (en cualquiera de sus dos dimensiones) no consumen cuota de almacenamiento
• Usuarios registrados en Google+: en este caso el consumo cuenta sólo con imágenes de más de 2048px

¿Y qué ocurresi nos pasamos? Pues simplemente que no podremos subir imágenes que superen los límites mencionados, perono tendremos el menor problema con las que sean más pequeñas porque siguen entrando dentro del plan gratuito. De hecho, si intentamos subir una de superior tamaño teniendo la capacidad de almacenamiento agotada, será Google quién realizará elcambio automático de tamaño dejando la imagen en 800px o 2048px, según el caso y las alojará igualmente, así que ni trabajo nos dará esa circunstancia.

En ambos casos los vídeos tampoco consumen cupo si son de menos de 15 minutos de duración.

Para saber cuánto llevas gastado hasta la fecha ve aPicasa, baja hasta el final de la página y allí, en letras verdes podrás ver un mensaje como este que te lo indica:

Actualmente utilizas 333 MB (32,51%) de tus 1024 MB.

Blogger

Si nunca has usado directamente el anterior servicio o no tuviste la curiosidad de pinchar en el anterior enlace, probablemente no seas consciente de ello, pero todas las imágenes que subes a Blogger (aunque tengas dominio propio),van a parar a Picasa.

Cada vez que abres un blog en Blogger se crea un álbum con el mismo nombre para guardar las imágenes que subes y que queda marcado con el icono naranja de Blogger. Para que funcione elhotlink, la visibilidad de estos álbumes no es del todo privada sino que se establece inicialmente como "Limitado a usuarios que reciban el enlace".

De esta manera, la capacidad de almacenamiento de Blogger es la misma que la de Picasa y también tiene las bonificaciones antes explicadas. Así que usando como máximo esos tamaños no tendrás límite.


Aprovechando que estamos por aquí y para que no te pase lo que a muchos por desconocimiento, has de saber quesi borras una foto publicada en tu blog desde Picasa, esta desaparecerá también del blog para siempre. Sin embargo, no ocurre lo mismo si la eliminas desde el editor de entradas. En este último caso en Picasa seguirá apareciendo, a pesar de que en la ayuda de soporte dicen que también se eliminará.

Esto sirve para cuando queremos poner una dirección de imagen en plantilla o en un gadget (distinto de los de tipo Imagen) y no queremos usar alojamientosexternos: subimos desde el editor la imagen, copiamos la URL para pegarla después dónde nos interese y ya podemos borrar de la entrada la imagen.

Lo he hecho centenares de veces sin problemas, así que no quiero ver a nadie haciendo esto mismo con Flickr, ImageShack, PhotoBucket o similares, ya que sobre todo con los dos últimos, sí puedo decir que alguna vez me han dejado colgado cuando al principio de los tiempos los usaba eventualmente.

Además,las imágenes alojadas fuera de Picasa no saldrán en gadgets como el de Posts Populares o Lista de Blogs, sin olvidar que nos hacen perderla ventaja de subir una sola imagen y disponer de cientos, cosa especialmente útil para algunos truquillos de plantilla.

Google+

Si tienesconectado tu blog con Google+ tus imágenes se guardarán en Fotos de Google+ y como la capacidad de almacenaje para este servicio es de 15 GB, eso será lo que tengas como límite. Una mejora bastante buena. Sólo hay que tener en cuenta que este límite será compartido con Gmail y con Google Drive.

Eneste enlace podéis comprobar si estáis en los 15GB, la capacidad consumida y la distribución entre cada uno de esos servicios. Tenéis que abrir sesión (login) en Google para ver vuestros propios datos y el desglose os sale al pasar el puntero por encima del gráfico circular.

Aquí seré más breve: rige lo mismo que para Picasa ya que ahí es dónde van a parar también las imágenes subidas con este otro servicio.

Corolario

Los límites de almacenamiento gratuito son más que suficientes para publicar imágenes en un sitio web. Conectado a Google+los 15GB te darán para más de 15.000 ficheros de 1MB.

De hecho, lo mejor por el bien de la rapidez de carga de tu página será que las que uses normalmente sean de bastantes menos KB. Por debajo de 300KB empezaríamos a entrar en pesos aceptables, aunque lo normal debería ser que fueran todavía menores. Por ejemplo, con unos 100KB deberíamos tener para una imagen en formato JPG de tamaño 1024x768 px.

Sólo haciéndolo muy muy mal podrías quedarte sin capacidad de almacenamiento en Google y aún así,siempre podrías seguir subiendo imágenes como mínimo de 800px (o de 2048px). Como además algunas cosas no funcionarán bien en Blogger si usas alojamientos externos para tus imágenes, evítalos en lo posible o úsalos como mucho a modo de copia de respaldo.

Por último, no olvidesandar con cuidado cuando borres imágenes en Picasa o en Google+, podrías estar usándolas en tu blog y también desaparecerían de allí sin remedio. Que se lo pregunten a todos los que alguna vez hemos perdido el avatar de nuestros propios comentarios.

Navidad al estilo Google. El 'misterio' de las animaciones CSS – Habitaciones

Seguro que algunos ya habréis reparado en que este año,al buscar en Google la palabraNavidad o su equivalente en otros idiomas como el inglés, aparece en la parte superior de la ventana del navegador y como fondo del menú principal, un sencillo paisaje nevado con sus correspondientes copos cayendo y el trineo de Papa Noel (Santa Claus, San Nicolás, como prefiráis) corriendo ocasionalmente por él.

Se trata de un efecto eminentemente gráfico, visualmente sencillo y cuya programación también lo es. Sólo lleva CSS y lo único un poco menos fácil para los no iniciados sería la parte de la animación del trineo. Esto es algo que yo tampoco domino pero este ejemplo creo que servirá como pequeña introducción sobre su uso. Allí vamos.

Al contrario de lo que suelo hacer, para los impacientes o los que simplemente tengan que salir corriendo a preparar el próximo menú navideño, primero la forma de ponerlo en el propio sitio y luego ya lo desmigajamos un poco.


Aunque el CSS necesario iría en un principio en la parte de estilo, en esta ocasión y por ser un código eventual que no queremos que se siga viendo en verano, lo vamos a poner por la vía rápida justo después de la aperturabody. Para ello le he añadido unas etiquetasstyle y así lo podemos poner junto con el HTML donde dije. De esta manera, al igual que ahora lo ponemos del tirón, el día que queramos quitarlo lo podremos eliminar fácilmente de una sola vez.

Eso es todo. El CSS dibuja todo en unid que he llamado#santa, de manera que al colocar una caja vacía con ese nombre en el lugar de la plantilla que dije, en la parte superior de la página debería aparecer la comentada estampa navideña.

Puede que en algunas plantillas que tengan elementos posicionados de forma fija o absoluta por esa zona, la cosa no quede bien y haya que hacer más ajustes, pero en la mayoría no habrá que hacer nada más.

El truco de esto está principalmente en las tres imágenes utilizadas. La primera es un patrón que forma el fondo principal azul y que incorpora los copos en movimiento. Se trata de un .gif, así que lo de la animación de esta parte está incorporada al dibujo.

Es la que va en laid principal (#santa) y el resto del código del selector es prácticamente para dimensionar la caja. Importante el posicionamiento relativo para luego poder ubicar bien lo que añadiremos sobre ella.

Sobre esta imagen azul con la nieve pondremos el trineo que luego veremos y la tercera imagen será otra con menor altura y que es la que crea las irregularidades del suelo.

Se trata de una imagen fija pero transparente, de manera que a través de los senos de las curvas del terreno, podamos ver la parte inferior del trineo en su desplazamiento. Es esta y como no tenía casi contraste con el fondo del blog, le he puesto un fondo oscuro para que podáis apreciar bien cómo está hecha.

¿Dónde va esta? Pues para no crear más selectores simplemente se ha añadido con un:after.

Tampoco hay mucho misterio en lo anterior. Medidas para la caja con visibilidad de bloque, el mencionado segundo fondo que quedará por encima y un posicionamiento absoluto con respecto al bloque principal (#santa).


Nos queda el trineo y ese lo hacemos prácticamente igual que el suelo pero añadiéndolo con:before. La única particularidad es que lo posicionamos inicialmente fuera de la escena con unleft negativo. Las últimas 5 líneas son las necesarias para la animación.

Para mover elementos se usaanimation y sus respectivas variantes para configurar las opciones, pero para que se ejecute el movimiento y marcar la ruta, tendremos que echar mano de@keyframes como veremos al final. De momento preparamos el tema con:

• animation-delay: especifica el tiempo en segundos de demora para empezar el movimiento. En este caso arrancaremos 4 segundos después de la carga.
• animation-duration: cuánto tardará el elemento a animar en hacer un "recorrido" completo
• animation-name: un nombre de libre designación para relacionar animation y @keyframes
• animation-timing-function: para fijar el ritmo de la animación, similar a lo que usamos en transition (linear, ease-in, etc.)
• animation-iteration-count: asigna el número de veces que se repetirá la misma secuencia

Y por fin lo que hace que todo esto se mueva. Es algo muy sencillo en cuanto a concepto y para un simple inicio como el de hoy, basta con saber quefrom yto se usan para fijar los puntos de inicio y destino de la animación.

Si recordáis, en la caja del trineo (#santa:before) indicamos antes un nombre para la animación (santamove) que es el que nos permitiría relacionar los valores anteriores deanimationcon este@keyframesde ahora. Ese nombre irá al principio de la declaración necesariamente.
